الغاية : علامة شرعية يعرف بها حدود الابتداء والانتهاء المتعلقة بحکم شرعي  ، والمغيا هو : الشيء الذي قدر الشرع حدا لابتدائه وانتهائه ، والغاية قصر لامتداد المغيا وبيان لانتهائه ، فتوجب قصر المغيا على ما حدد غاية له ، وقد عني البحث عناية خاصة بأساليب الدلالة على الغاية ، عبر الکلمات (من) و (مذ) و (منذ) والأحرف التي يکثر دلالتها على الغاية وانتهاء المغيا ، وهي (إلى) و(اللام) و(حتى) والتي يقل دلالتها على انتهاء المغيا وهي (في) و(الباء) و(أو) و(الفاء) وأحيانا : (من)، کما استحدث البحث مسألة لأهم أساليب الدلالة على الغاية بغير الحروف الغائية ، وهي ثمانية  أساليب تنبه الباحث إلى رصدها والتنبيه على أهميتها ، کما أبرز بعض الحکم في دلالة النص على أحد طرفي المغيا دون الآخر  ، وأمثلة تعدد الغاية مع اتحاد المغيا ، وعکسه ، والترديد بين غايتين ، ثم عمد البحث إلى بيان أسباب دخول الغاية في المغيا وموانعه ، فحرر موضع الخلاف وإجمال سببه ، وأفاض في الأسباب والموانع التي قيل بتأثيرها في دخول الغاية في المغيا ، وانتهى إلى الترجيح الذي شفعه بالتطبيقات المفيدة المثمرة.
